Jack Parow’s 2023 album, Die Evangelie Van Goeie Tye, was released to
critical acclaim in 2023. Emboldened by this, Jack requires music videos for publishing to online video
platforms. The video most favoured by Jack would be chosen as the official music video for that track on
the album.
The track chosen for this project was Paranoia. This song revolves
around Jack not being able to remember the actions he took during a drunken night, prior to the
chronology of the song, and the paranoia he experiences, believing that the consequences for these
unknown actions will soon catch up to him.
In order to foster a unique style for the music video, the designs of the environment, as well as
characters in the video, were based on road signs and other standardised signs in South Africa.
The objectives of the project were to create an engaging music video animation for an exisiting piece of
music by the Artist JAck Parow. The music video would conform to his style and the messaging and
aesthetics of the song. To do this, a full lenght 2d animated music video would be produced for the full
cut of the song.
The first steps in this project were to listen to the music and transcribe the lyrics. Then, the lyrics
were analysed to come up with the meaning of the music, as well as to generate ideas for the flow of the
music video. Following this, the video had to be storyboarded and initial design considerations had to
be made.
The colours used in the music video were all chosen directly from the album art for Die Evangelie Van
Goeie Tye.
Animation was done in sections, producing assets for scenes which were then composed and edited as a
section, before moving on to the next. Careful consideration was made so that the scenes transitioned
and the assets moved in time to the music.
Finally the video was exported and sent to Jack Parow for review.
